Scholarship, is awarded to a deserving third or fourth year architectural student in the construction Technologies class. Roofing is an integral part of the success of all buildings and COMMERCIAL ROOFERS, INC. wants to help teach the importance of proper and workable roof designs to students who aspire to be future architects. Each year the principals of Commercial Roofers, Inc. Scott Howard and Dennis Conway take a day and visit the classroom to give an educational presentation on roofing by answering questions, handing out samples of roofing material and assisting with their roofing education. Every eligible student is asked to design a mock building, with emphasis on the roof plan. The projects are then judged by the class instructor, two additional UNLV professors, with a principal of COMMERCIAL ROOFERS, INC. looking on as an observer. Each scholarship recipient’s projects are maintained in the school’s library for reference. For more details see the UNLV article: Architecture Scholarship Helps Students Learn Best Practices. COMMERCIAL ROOFERS, INC. Recently renewed the scholarship program in 2008 for an additional 10 years and increased the amount to $15,000, with a year scholarship presented every fall in the amount of $1,500. |
